  • Enhancing Education With the Latest Interactive Tools

    Dr. and Mrs. Truhlsen are members of the Foundation’s Visionary Society. They have made more than $1.5 million in lifetime donations.

    ONE OF THE ACADEMY’S most important functions is the education of ophthalmologists on a global level. To this end, the latest technology is essential to providing the highestquality educational experiences. Thanks to a generous $500,000 donation from Academy Past-President Stanley M. Truhlsen, MD, and his wife, Dottie, the ONE Network will be enhanced by state-of-the-art educational tools.

    The Dr. Stanley and Dorothy Truhlsen Simulation Education Initiative Endowment Fund will support interactive learning technology. “The ONE Network provides education to ophthalmologists on the national level and around the world. We are proud to support the Academy’s many accomplishments and innovations in its educational pursuits,” said Dr. Truhlsen. For years to come, the endowment will help fund cutting-edge tools such as simulators, interactive exercises, self-assessments, surgical videos, 3D ocular models and games involving virtual patients.

    This visionary approach to online education will improve learning for thousands of ophthalmologists worldwide. The tools will enhance the subspecialty education centers on the ONE Network: the David E. I. Pyott Glaucoma Education Center, the Knights Templar Eye Foundation Pediatric Ophthalmology Education Center, the Dr. Charles R. and Judith G. Munnerlyn Laser Surgery Education Center, and the future retina and cataract education centers.
