Best of E-Talk: Dealing with Optical Theft
Question: A patient came in for an appointment and brought along their partner, who is not a patient with our practice. After the appointment, they both went to optical so the patient could order some glasses. While the opticians were distracted with the patient, the partner stole an expensive pair of sunglasses. This was all caught on camera. When we contacted the police, the stolen sunglasses were returned.
However, should we dismiss this patient? While it appears that the two could have been co-conspirators, it is impossible to prove.
