What to Do Jan. 1, 2017
Reporting burdens have been lessened but a few minutes of planning for the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System that launches 2017 will be helpful when you return to the office in January.
Step 1. Decide how you plan to report: EHR via IRIS Registry, EHR via your vendor, group, manual data into IRIS Registry or claims based or a combination of manual data entry into IRIS Registry and claims-based reporting.
Note: Watch for early 2017 communications from IRIS and/or your EHR vendor announcing 2016 work is complete and they are beginning to pull 2017 data.
Step 2. Review the measure options currently available. Take note of which of the outcome or high priority measures you can most expeditiously report. Or, if you are reporting manually, you can wait until early June for the release of the ophthalmic specialty measures reportable through IRIS Registry.
Step 3. Determine whether you are going to avoid the penalty or go for a possible bonus and the size of bonus you would like to try to obtain.
Step 4. If reporting via manual data entry into IRIS Registry or claims for a possible bonus, determine which 90 consecutive days you will report. Note this is not three months but 90 consecutive days.
