The Academy met with the HHS Office of Inspector to continue pressing our concerns about step therapy. The meeting follows the OIG’s September 15 announcement that it will review how Medicare Advantage plans use prior authorization and step therapy for Part B drugs, a review the Academy urged.  
 

The Medicare contractor updated its botulinum toxin injection coverage policy to clarify that single-dose vials may be split between multiple patients.

The Academy’s model legislation to reduce topical drug waste passed the Arizona legislature. Similar bills iwere ntroduced in Pennsylvania and Texas. 

The Academy, ASCRS and EyeSustain met with CMS to discuss regulatory barriers to reducing surgical waste.

The Academy has focused on reducing drug waste and promoting patient and physician access to ophthalmic drugs.
