On April 17, 2010, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS) adopted sweeping new ethics guidelines aimed at limiting the influence of drug and device makers over patient care. The new Code for Interactions with Companies provides guidance to medical specialty societies on how to guard the independence of their programs, policies, and advocacy positions. The code is voluntary, and the Academy is among the first medical societies to adopt it.

In this podcast, Academy CEO Dr. David Parke II discusses the new ethics code with ONE Editor-in-Chief Dr. Karl Golnik.

Financial Disclosures: Dr. Parke discloses that he is a consultant for OMIC (Ophthalmic Mutual Insurance Company). Dr. Golnik has no related financial interests to disclose.
