In his 2015 Binkhorst Medal Lecture, Dr. Richard Packard traces the evolution of the capsulotomy from crude forceps to precision laser which continues to be improved upon. Dr. Packard offered a brief overview of a possible new direction in laser cataract surgery – the CAPSULaser, a continuous thermal laser that fits under a surgical microscope that makes precise capsulotomies in just 3 seconds.
