In this second session from the American Society of Ophthalmic Trauma (ASOT) "Sports-Related Ocular Trauma" Symposium at AAO 2023, Dr. Michael Yen, one of the team physicians to the Houston Rockets, discusses his 2018–2019 study on eye injuries in the National Basketball League (NBA). Basketball is the most common sport for sports-related eye injuries in the US, but unlike other major league sports organizations, the NBA has yet to characterize eye injuries. By helping to define the scope and patterns of eye injuries in the NBA, this research provides a necessary step toward identifying risk factors, changing policies to reduce risk, and making effective recommendations on preventive measures.
