How Do You Get a Baby to Wear Protective Goggles?
JUN 19, 2014
Question:
My 10-month-old grandson lost vision in his left eye due to shaken baby injuries. He now has protective eyewear to protect the good eye, but of course, he pulls them off as soon as you put them on him. Is there a trick to getting a baby to wear protective goggles?
Answer:
I wish you could tell me one! The frustration that family and ophthalmologists experience in situations like this is very well known. Children, even up to age 6 or 7, will usually fight to remove anything foreign on their face. Children who aren’t speaking yet, like this one, are unable to understand the need to wear protective eyewear, spectacles, or even a patch.
