Can my PED (pigment epithelial detachment) size be reduced by using Diamox?
NOV 23, 2015
Question:
I have subfoveal PED (pigment epithelial detachment, or fluid in the layer of cells under the retina) post CSR (central serous retinopathy) in one eye and two small PED in another. Can PED size be reduced by using Diamox?
Answer:
Although there have been some limited reports of Diamox helping with CSR, there is no strong evidence to support such treatment. Although more than 90 percent of cases improve spontaneously (on their own), CSR can be a difficult, chronic condition. Be sure to tell your ophthalmologist if you are taking any type of steroid, including inhalers and skin creams and whether you are taking any testosterone supplements.
