If I have thin corneas, will SMILE work better than LASIK for me?
MAY 07, 2018
Question:
I was told that my corneas were too thin to do the LASIK procedure — would I be able to have the SMILE procedure done instead?
Answer:
PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) or SMILE (small incision lenticule extraction) may be options but it really depends on how thin the cornea is. Also, PRK will treat astigmatism (irregularly shaped cornea), but SMILE will not. Another option is an implantable contact lens (ICL), where thickness of the cornea does not matter.
