New cannula improves femtosecond cataract surgery efficiency

Beaver-Visitec announced the immediate availability of a multifunctional cannula to facilitate the opening of side-port, main and arcuate laser incisions without distortion or stretching.

“This Visitec FLACS cannula has an outstanding tip design to ensure that opening of femtosecond laser-cut cataract incisions is both efficient and safe. In addition, I have found that my operating time has reduced because fewer instrument hand-offs are required,” said Cédric Schweitzer, MD, of CHU Hopitaux de Bordeaux, France.

The 25-gauge cannula can also inject ophthalmic viscosurgical devices or other solutions, reducing the number of instrument passes into the eye and decreasing procedure time. Additionally, the single-use device eliminates the risk of cross-contamination associated with reusable instruments and the need for sterilization.
