In this interview from ASCRS 2015, Dr. Cynthia Matossian discusses a new alternative to the multifocal IOL, the extended depth of focus IOL, also known as extended range of vision IOL. Using a new design concept, these IOLs promise cataract patients an expanded depth of field without the drawbacks associated with a multifocal visual system. Clinical trial results show a high rate of spectacle independence with a low incidence of photic phenomena, such as halos and glare.
