How to code diabetes with no ophthalmic disease progression
Question: What is the best diagnosis code to use when a patient is sent to our practice because they have diabetes, but no ophthalmic disease progression is diagnosed?
Answer: Submit either E10.9 Type 1 diabetes without complications or E11.9 Type 2 diabetes without complications. There is no direct cross walk from ICD-9 to ICD-10 for the 250.0 family of codes.
