  • ICD-10 Is Here

The biggest change to coding in 30 years takes effect Oct. 1: the implementation of the ICD-10-CM code set. For all commercial and federal claims with dates of service on or after Oct. 1, 2015, you must use ICD-10. The change affects commercial payers and Medicare and Medicaid.

Under the grace period announced July 6, CMS will not deny claims submitted in the proper “family” of codes, but you must use ICD-10 codes for dates of service Oct. 1, 2015, and on.

To help your practice use ICD-10 successfully, the Academy and the American Academy of Ophthalmic Executives have developed a number of resources to guide you through the transition, including an ophthalmology-specific ICD-10 book, several courses and a growing online library of answers to your questions.
