Report Triesence Units Per Documentation
We have always billed 4 units of Triesence injected with 36 units of wastage. The recent Codequest presentation contained a slide that displayed 1 unit injected and 39 units wasted. Has something changed?
Triesence is a single-use vial of 40 milligrams or 40 units based on the HCPCS descriptor. Report the dosage and amount of waste per the procedure note documentation. The dosage could be 1 mg – 4 mg and the remaining would be reported with -JW modifier.
Example, 1 mg injected, 39 units wasted.
- Triesence 40 units (J3300 Injection, triamcinolone acetonide, preservative free, 1 mg)
