  • Unable to Properly Fit Prokera

A cornea specialist asks if it is appropriate to bill for Prokera placement (65778) when the patient’s corneal anatomy caused the Prokera ring to be highly mobile on the eye and not stay in place. It had to be removed immediately.

Unfortunately, there is no appropriate code to bill for this procedure.
If it was attempted in the office, nothing to bill. Contact your vendor for possible assistance with cost of tissue.
If performed in an ambulatory surgery center, the physician does not bill, and the facility will have to absorb the cost of the tissue.
If performed in a hospital setting, the physician does not bill, and the facility can bill for the tissue.
