  • YAG for Epithelial Ingrowth

Question: My physician uses a YAG laser to treat epithelial ingrowth on a patient. Would we bill the YAG procedure code of 66821 and the diagnosis of H18.891? Or should we be using the unlisted code 66999?

Answer: CPT 66821 is not appropriate as the descriptor indicates it is for secondary cataract.

Consider CPT 65450 Destruction of lesion of cornea by cryotherapy, photocoagulation or thermocauterization.

Additional CPT information can be found in the Academy’s CPT: Complete Pocket Ophthalmic Reference and Ophthalmic Coding Coach.
