  • Robert J. Cionni, MD, is the medical director of The Eye Institute of Utah and specializes in cataract and refractive lens implant surgery, as well as LASIK and PRK. He has authored and co-authored numerous manuscripts, textbook chapters and video journal segments regarding cataract surgery techniques and the management of cataract and implant complications.

    Dr. Cionni has a particular interest in patients with traumatic cataract, congenital lens subluxation and disease-induced zonular weakness. He has designed special implants, such as the Cionni Capsular Tension Ring, and surgical techniques to improve surgical outcomes in these challenging eyes. In addition, he teaches surgeons nationally and lectures internationally about the use of these devices and techniques in addition to several others.
