    Steps in enucleation surgery. a. Conjunctival peritomy. b. Tenon capsule is separated from the underlying sclera. c. The lateral rectus muscle is hooked, a double-armed suture is placed, and the muscle is cut from the sclera. d. Enucleation scissors are passed around the sclera to the optic nerve. e. The enucleated globe is removed from the socket. f. Tenon capsule is closed over a PMMA implant. g. Tenon and conjunctiva are closed with running sutures. h. A conformer is placed behind the eyelids.
