Question:
My doctor decided to postpone my Avastin injections today because my blood sugar was high. He said the risk of the injection site would be higher if my sugar was elevated. Is there any danger in getting an injection if the blood sugar is high that morning? Are there studies that justify this risk?
Answer:
I am not aware of any studies that show the risk of getting an intravitreal injection of Avastin is altered by changes in blood sugar level. To my knowledge there is not any study that shows a higher risk of intravitreal injection of Avastin in the setting of high blood sugars.
