Question:
I stained my contact lens with hot Cheetos. What can I do to get it out? Is it safe to use if I leave it in solution over night?
Answer:
You should never put something in your eye if is not sterile. Even wearing clean contact lenses increases the risk of abrasions and vision loss. If you put contaminated lenses in your eye, you are introducing potentially harmful bacteria that can do a tremendous amount of damage. The safest method is to throw the lenses away and start with a fresh pair. Multipurpose and hydrogen peroxide- based solutions are designed to remove the proteins that bind to the contact lenses in the course of normal wear. However, using contaminated lenses even after cleaning them with these solutions is not worth the risk.
