Is it normal for my eye to become smaller when infected?

Question:
I am currently on treatment for microbial keratitis (inflammation of the cornea, at the front of the eye). Is it normal for the eye to get smaller? I've noticed how my eyelid is droopy and how it has gotten smaller. Is it temporary due to the medication, or will it be permanent?
Answer:
It is common for the eyelid to become droopy when it is swollen. Your ophthalmologist will be able to advise you regarding the droopy eyelid once the keratitis has cleared. Confirm with your ophthalmologist, but you may need to wait several weeks at a minimum after treatment to assess the lid position.
