Can YAG be used to treat macular pucker?

Question:
If YAG laser is being used to break up floaters, can it also be used for macular pucker?
Answer:
While a YAG laser can be used to treat floaters in rare cases, there is no similar laser available to treat a macular pucker, or epiretinal membrane.
For the majority of those with macular pucker, it is left alone and monitored because it only interferes minimally with vision. If the macular pucker causes blurry and/or distorted vision, it can be treated surgically. This will require a visit with an ophthalmologist or retina specialist to assess.
