Could a sudden, hard fall bring about PVD?

Question:
I developed PVD symptoms in my right eye immediately after a hard fall. Could a sudden, hard fall bring about a PVD?
Answer:
A posterior vitreous detachment (or PVD) is a normal, age-related process. The jelly-like substance inside our eye (the vitreous) becomes less solid as we age and pulls away from the back of the eye. But a fall could bring this change on prematurely. An ophthalmologist should check the retina now and as needed in the future.
