Why don't I see clearly with my left eye when closing the right after cataract surgery?

Question:
With mini-monovision after cataract surgery, I use my non-dominant left eye for distance. I wear driving glasses, which provide crisp distance vision and I am also able to see the dashboard clearly. I noticed, however, when I close my right eye, I cannot see clearly with my left. It is almost as if the monovision has been reversed. Is this a concern?
Answer:
With monovision (or blended vision), a person's "dominant" eye is typically corrected to see better at a distance, while their "non-dominant" eye is corrected to see better up close.
Glasses for driving usually correct both eyes to see better at a distance. If you are having trouble seeing clearly out of your left eye while wearing glasses, then have them checked by the optician who sold them to you. If the optician confirms the glasses were made correctly, then follow up with the eye care provider who wrote the glasses prescription to have this rechecked.
