When can I wear contact lenses after having a bacterial eye infection?

Question:
I'm on eye drops after being diagnosed with a bacterial eye infection and asymptomatic. When can I resume wearing my contact lenses?
Answer:
Bacterial infection of the eye is rare unless there is some eye disturbance such as contact lens infection, recent surgery, eye trauma, etc. I am guessing you were put on antibacterial eyedrops based on your exam with your eye care specialist. Bacterial infection is very symptomatic, and you state you are without symptoms currently. Having a follow-up examination with your doctor to confirm your eye has returned to normal is advised prior to resuming contact lens–wear.
