The Academy's Task Force on Sustainability was created in February 2022 and approved by CEO Stephen McLeod, MD. The task force’s charge is to initiate Academy sustainability activities to engage members and policymakers to reduce future carbon footprint of clinical care. This group of talented and dedicated ophthalmologists meets regularly to plan and as well as collaborate with other entities, such as EyeSustain. Activities have included the writing of a chapter on sustainability for the Academy's Basic Principles of Ophthalmic Surgery, partnering with MyGreenDoctor.org for practical advice for clinical practices for reduce, reuse and recycle, and participation in meeting presentations such as at the Academy's Mid-Year Forum annual meetings and writing articles for the YO Info newsletters.
