  • The Academy Foundation welcomes Dr. Alan Wagner as the Orbital Chair beginning in 2024. This event is the Academy’s premier fundraising event of the year. Dr. Alan Wagner as the Orbital Chair

    Dr. Wagner will succeed Dr. Christie Morse after three years of exemplary leadership and will lead a stellar committee of ophthalmologists and philanthropists to create an event that will benefit Academy programs.

    Dr. Wagner is a board-certified, internationally recognized innovator in the treatment of patients with retinal and macula disease, pediatric and adult diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and detachments, and ocular oncology. Dr. Wagner completed his ophthalmology residency and served as Chief Resident at Eastern Virginia Medical School and his vitreoretinal fellowship at Weill Cornell University Medical Center. Dr. Wagner is engaged in setting healthcare policy, serving in positions including President of the Virginia Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, Secretariat of State Affairs for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, President of the Medical Society of Virginia Foundation, Board of Visitors and Trustee at Eastern Virginia Medical School, President of the Virginia Beach Medical Society, and appointed by five Virginia Governors to multiple Commissions and Board positions. Dr. Wagner is actively involved in several charitable and fraternal organizations, most recently the Board of WHRO. He is an avid fine art photographer. Dr. Wagner and his wife, Jody, enjoyed raising their four children in Hampton Roads.
