Ophthalmic Education, Diversity, and Access to Care
Ophthalmic education continues to be the cornerstone of the Academy as we advance the profession by providing the world’s best clinical education to care for our patients. We place a high value on diversity. We understand that increasing ophthalmology’s diversity equates to better care for the patients we serve. Donating to the Minority Ophthalmology Mentoring program is one way you can help our cause for the future.
Access to care remains a barrier for patients. We are working to ensure that the patients who need the care most are seen by an ophthalmologist. EyeCare America is the largest public service program dedicated to eye care in the U.S. and is expanding its reach by partnering with Federally Qualified Health Centers. Giving back to EyeCare America makes a difference in patient’s lives.

Honor A Mentor
We have all had a special person who has impacted them in their career as an ophthalmologist. For this reason, we created the Honor a Mentor campaign (aao.org/foundation/honor-a-mentor). This is a touching way to celebrate a professor, colleague, or advisor who made a real difference in your career and who you admire as a mentor. It’s Easy to Give
You can conveniently make a credit card donation via our website. If you prefer, you can also arrange for a monthly or quarterly recurring gift. Many of our members choose to donate appreciated securities through their financial institution which may have tax benefits – please consult your financial or tax advisor.
For those who wish to make a larger contribution, we welcome you to pledge over $2,500. Lastly, an increasingly popular way to maximize giving is through donor advised funds or DAFs.
