  • Can I smoke a regular cigarette after cataract surgery?

    Question:

Can I smoke a regular cigarette after cataract surgery?

    Answer:

Yes and no. There is no conclusive evidence that smoking after cataract surgery produces any significant complications to your operation, however, I am a physician and I must restate what you already know: smoking kills! Smoking has been proven to destroy your health, your heart, your lungs, etc., and may be the worst thing a person can do to their eyes if there is a history of macular degeneration in your family. I sincerely hope that your new-found clear vision will allow you to see your way to the cessation of smoking, for your benefit and the benefit of those who love you.
