The American Academy of Ophthalmology places top priority on the health and safety of our meeting participants and attendees. We are actively monitoring developments with the COVID-19 pandemic and looking forward to the passing of this crisis. To that end, the Academy is working with hotels and the convention center to follow all recommendations for in-person events from local health districts, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.
New sanitation and cleaning procedures are being implemented for all areas of AAO 2020 and the Sands Expo/Venetian. Review the Venetian Clean Commitment, a summary of the initiatives the hotel and convention space have rolled out in response to COVID-19.
The layout of all session rooms, labs and classrooms are under review to increase physical distancing. Most rooms are open on a first-come basis, therefore room capacity will be closely monitored. Academy and AAOE instruction course rooms, including Skills Transfer didactic lectures, are accessible only to those who have purchased an Academy Plus course pass. Attendees are encouraged to arrive at rooms early to ensure a seat in preferred courses. In addition, attendees should consider purchasing tickets early as space in Skills Transfer labs and other ticketed events will be limited.
