Does my 6-month-old have droopy eyelid?
DEC 27, 2021
Question:
My 6-month-old’s right eye is smaller than her other eye. From birth her right eye would close occasionally while the left eye is open. What I noticed is she only rolls to her right side since she was 4 months and still has not learned to turn on her left side. I'm not sure if there is any correlation to the eye problem. Her eyes do follow simultaneously. I'm wondering if this is congenital ptosis and how early can she have surgery to get it fixed? We are waiting to schedule an appointment with an ophthalmologist.
Answer:
She may have a
congenital ptosis (droopy eyelid since birth) or jaw wink (when jaw movement causes eye to blink). It is critical that an ophthalmologist check her vision to determine if that is the reason she favors one side.
