Eczema is a non-contagious skin condition which causes the skin to be red, itchy, flaky and dry. Steroid creams prescribed by your doctor can help, but long term steroid use can lead to glaucoma, cataracts, and skin depigmentation. Steroids need to be used in a limited way, and tapering off steroids is always important. Keeping skin hydrated can help. Evaluate your skin creams and moisturizers—they may contain perfumes and chemicals which trigger the eczema. Try to reduce stress and anxiety, which can also trigger eczema, by eating properly, exercising, and getting enough sleep.
