High Intraocular Pressure and Cholesterol Medication (Statins)
APR 12, 2013
Question:
I was diagnosed with high pressure in my eyes. Could certain cholesterol medications be the cause?
Answer:
I think that is unlikely. I am not aware of any studies that have suggested statins (the most common class of cholesterol lowering agents) raise intraocular pressure. In fact, we’ve seen several population based studies that have suggested that there is actually a protective effect associated with this group of medications.
