Is there anything that might help a bruised optic nerve to heal?

Question:
My adult son had a traumatic brain injury a year ago from a bicycle fall. His left side had a brain bleed for a couple of weeks, and after rehabilitation he is almost back to normal, except that his left side optic nerve was “bruised.” The retina is fine. His sight has still not come back, but they said it might. Is it possible that hyperbaric chamber treatment or any stem cell therapy may help? If not, is there anything that might help a bruised optic nerve to heal?
Answer:
Unfortunately, there are no proven treatments for a damaged optic nerve associated with injury. Neither hyperbaric chamber treatment nor stem cell therapy have been shown to have any benefit. The eye is a very sensitive organ and has very limited regenerative potential.
