Plateau Iris Prognosis and Treatment
APR 12, 2013
I have plateau iris and had a laser iridotomy performed four weeks ago. Yesterday my pressure was 35 and pilocarpine was prescribed morning and evening. What are my chances of these working and if they don't, what is the next step?
The initial step in treating plateau iris is laser iridotomy. This eliminates a component of angle narrowing that we term pupillary block. However, because plateau iris is caused by anterior positioning of a structure behind the iris called the ciliary body, laser iridotomy alone typically does not alleviate the problem. We often must perform an additional laser treatment called argon laser peripheral iridoplasty. Not to worry, I would still say your prognosis remains excellent.
