  • How do you treat a chalazion in a baby?

    Question:

Our daughter has what we believe to be a chalazion on her inner upper eyelid. She is only nine weeks old and has had it for four weeks. We've read many reports of older children who can take stronger medications and accept compresses, but what to do with such a small baby?

    Answer:

Chalazion in a nine-week-old baby is very unusual. You do not mention why you think that this problem is a chalazion. I am concerned that other conditions might cause such an appearance and urge you to take your daughter to an ophthalmologist or a pediatric ophthalmologist, just to be certain.
