Wavy Amsler Grid
APR 25, 2012
When I look at a grid the lines look wavy. Is that a problem?
The Amsler grid is a screening tool that we often provide to patients whom we feel are at risk for macular diseases. One of the most common of these diseases is macular degeneration. For these patients, in addition to wearing sunglasses with UV protection and advising a diet rich in anti-oxidants, we recommend periodic self-screening with an Amsler grid.
Waviness of the grid can be suggestive of an irregularity in the contour of your retina. If you have noticed the onset of waviness, fading, or distortion of those grid lines, it is imperative that you promptly consult with your ophthalmologist for further evaluation.
