What’s causing pain when I blink my eyes?

Question:
The inside of my eyelid seems to be scratched. it’s not the eye but the lid. I’m having discomfort in the lid, and when I blink it has more pain. What do I do?
Answer:
You may have an eyelash or other foreign body (such as a retained contact lens) hidden under your eyelid. You could also have allergic conjunctivitis (pink eye) or something else that is scratching your cornea. An ophthalmologist will be able to examine you, check the health of your cornea (for herpes, dry eye, or other problems), and flip your eyelid to look for a cause of the irritation.
