  • Why is my daughter's vision blurry when she takes off glasses for her double vision?

    Question:
My 8-year-old had double vision a few months ago. The double vision in both eyes was clear, however. They gave her glasses, and it stopped the double vision. Now when she takes her glasses off everything is blurry. Why is that?

    Answer:

The double vision likely resulted from her need for eyeglasses. She has become comfortable with the improvement in vision that the eyeglasses provide and now is aware of blur without them.  While this sounds like a normal, expected result, please confirm this and your child’s overall eye health during a follow-up exam with your ophthalmologist.
