  • Why is my grandson growling and blinking excessively?

    Question:

My 6-year-old grandson constantly blinks really hard and makes a growling sound, he says during this time he can't talk or think what he was saying, his speech therapy session was cut short today due to this. He is a twin and was a very premature baby. What could be causing this?

    Answer:

Forceful blinking in children can be related to irritation of the cornea or conjunctiva at the front of the eye (dry eyes, allergies, etc.).

In some cases, it can be related to Tourette’s syndrome or other neurological issues. Your grandson should be evaluated by his pediatrician and, if necessary, a pediatric neurologist for correct diagnosis and treatment.
