Will crying dissolve my stitches?

Question:
Will crying dissolve my stitches too quickly? I had strabismus surgery (surgery to straighten crossed eyes) on both eyes a few days ago. Due to some personal issues in my life, I have been crying a lot the past two days. My eyes have been very red and swollen as a result, much worse than what I had right after surgery. I am worried that all the tears may dissolve my stitches before I heal. Can this happen?
Answer:
Sorry to hear about your personal issues. There is nothing in human tears which will dissolve your stitches. Just be careful to not rub your eyes.
Normal crying does not cause redness or swelling, and I suggest heartily that you be examined by your surgeon to be certain that there is no infection or stitches allergy causing this.
