    Nov. 10, 2017

A split-second of contact during a high school game almost took the vision in one of Angellia's eyes when her retina detached. Surgical care by ophthalmologist Rahul N. Khurana, MD, saved Angellia's vision and got her back out on the basketball court.

About 30,000 people in the U.S. go to emergency departments each year with sports-related eye injuries. Three sports accounted for almost half of all injuries: basketball, baseball and air/paintball guns. Ninety percent of serious eye injuries are preventable through use of appropriate protective eyewear.
