  • Satisfying Delegated Testing Order Requirements

If a new patient is being seen, can I have my scribe note in the chart that, “Dr X orders an OCT macula due to hypertension,” and will that satisfy the order criteria?

    Answer:
Screening tests or standing orders are not payable by Medicare Part B or any other payer, even if pathology is found.  The diagnosis or indication must be established by the physician.
Testing services require a physician order indicating the specific test(s), site (right, left or both eyes) and medical necessity for all delegated testing services.
