    Awards Committee

The Academy is honored to present Indian Health Service – Joslin Vision Network Teleophthalmology Program with the 2023 Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes individuals or organizations for their ongoing notable service to ophthalmology and the Academy. The Academy recognizes Indian Health Service’s leadership and commitment to advance and improve eye care services for members of federally recognized Native American tribes and Alaska Native people.

The Indian Health Service Jolson Vision Network (IHS-JVN) Teleophthalmology Program plays a critical role in expanding access to diabetic retinopathy screening and eye care for members of Native American tribes and Alaska Native people. The program was instrumental in the decline of diabetes-related vision loss, and continued expansion will ensure further benefits for members of these populations. IHS-JVN Teleophthalmology Program Director Dara L. Shahon, MD, will accept the award on behalf of the agency during the Opening Session.
