• Can Astigmatism Develop Later in Life?

I went to a new optometrist and he wrote my prescription for two toric contact lenses. Until then, I had toric in the right eye but not the left. I assumed he made a mistake, but when I called him later, he said the left eye had an astigmatism also. Is it possible to develop astigmatism later in life? I am 60 years old and have been wearing contacts since I was a teen.

Like all aspects of your refraction (and prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses), astigmatism can change or increase over time. Consult with your optometrist if you want to know more about your own eyes.
