Question:
Can a build-up of calcium in the body from not doing dialysis cause vision loss?
Answer:
There is a disease called band keratopathy, which is itself a build-up of calcium in the cornea (the clear front window of the eye). In those with this condition, more calcium in the body can make this problem worse. For those without band keratopathy, however, a build-up of calcium will not affect the cornea or the inside of the eye.
However, calcium build-up from not doing dialysis is a greater threat to other parts of the body and can even be fatal.
