  • Can you be nearsighted and farsighted?

    Question:
I'm 29 and nearsighted and now have difficulty reading. Am I farsighted too?

    Answer:

Generally speaking, it is not possible to be both nearsighted (myopic) and farsighted (hyperopic). Difficulty seeing up close may simply be due to an incorrect glasses and/or contact lens prescription, or may indicate a problem with the eyes not moving together properly. I would recommend you discuss this problem with your ophthalmologist who can perform an exam to help find the cause of your symptoms.
