How long after cryotherapy can I wear contacts?

Answer:
Contact lenses are okay to wear 24 hours after cryotherapy (applying extreme cold to seal the retinal tear), as long as it was the only procedure performed and not combined with surgery where incisions are made into the eye. You may be prescribed steroid eye drops after cryotherapy which can increase the risk of infection with contact lens wear. In this situation, ask your treating ophthalmologist when it is safe to resume wearing your contact lens in the treated eye.
