Is it normal to need glasses several years after cataract surgery?
DEC 21, 2016
Question:
I had IOLs put in several years ago and have not had to wear glasses for reading or distance. Now, my vision seems to be changing and my ophthalmologist has recommended glasses. Is this normal?
Answer:
Yes, this can be very normal, depending upon the nature of the glasses prescription. It is not too uncommon for the focusing power of an eye with a lens implant to change a small amount over time. The wearing of glasses as needed would be a wise solution. On rare occasions, a lens implant might twist or otherwise have its shape altered and cause more significant blurring. If this happens, a surgical approach to the problem could be required. Your ophthalmologist can help you understand any such changes.
